Confident computing skills are key for citizens of the future. At Jubilee we ensure children develop their computational thinking, starting with programmable toys and precise use of directional language and later through high quality coding and programming applications. These build the children’s knowledge and understanding of block coding with carefully sequenced activities until they are able to create their own simple apps and games like this and this. They also explore the many possibilities of electronic publishing using online book creating tools, spreadsheets, and later create their own websites.
Making sure children understand how to stay safe online is paramount; as well as dedicated sessions on this during Computing curriculum time it is discussed with children in other curriculum areas when accessing the internet and in work around anti-bullying themes in PSHE.
The school is well-equipped with hardware and every class has access to a set of laptops allowing a dynamic approach to teaching and learning of Computing objectives and electronic publishing more widely.
