At Jubilee we are very proud of the actions our pupils have taken to help reduce our school’s environmental footprint. Our Eco Committee includes two pupils from each class in years 2-6 who are voted for by their peers. The Eco Committee is responsible for making positive environmental changes in our school. For the past 3 years our school has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag award. This is an international accreditation that recognises the environmental work at our school. Some of the important sustainability steps that have been taken by our Eco Committee include:

• An annual school environmental review to assess our school’s environmental impact
• The annual creation of an environmental action plan
• The use of this action plan to work towards the renewal of our Eco Schools Green Flag status
• Taking part in the month long carbon cutting challenge in November
• The running of an Eco-refill shop which offers the school community the chance to cut plastic waste by buying reusable household products
• Litter picking in the school grounds
• Raising pupil awareness of nature in the school grounds, for example setting a school tree identification challenge

As well as the important steps taken by the Eco Committee to improve our school’s environmental impact, the environment is also embedded into school life at Jubilee. Some examples of this include:

• Gardening sessions for all pupils
• Plans to continually improve the school grounds (for example the installation of a green wall around the playgrounds this year and ongoing plans to increase wildflower diversity)
• Delivering a Nature based topic in the summer term. These topics develop knowledge of environmental issues and raise awareness of the importance of the natural world
